Popchips, known for its better-for-you snack options, is excited to announce its feature in the upcoming “The Garfield Movie” by Columbia Pictures/Alcon Entertainment, set to release on May 24, 2024. In conjunction with the film’s release, Popchips has introduced a limited-edition Nacho flavor that has quickly become a favorite snack of the lasagna-loving cat, Garfield. The new flavor was launched in January 2024 and caters to those seeking a cheesy yet healthier potato chip option. As with all Popchips products, the Nacho flavor is gluten-free, non-GMO, vegan, and contains 50% less fat than traditional fried chips.
The promotional campaign includes specially designed Nacho bags featuring Garfield, which are now available at select retailers like Walmart, Aldi, Sprouts, and others. These bags are part of a larger marketing effort that includes large orange display shippers decorated with cat paw prints and stripes to highlight Garfield’s endorsement.
In “The Garfield Movie,” which stars Chris Pratt as the voice of Garfield and Samuel L. Jackson as Garfield’s father, Vic, the plot revolves around Garfield’s unexpected adventure that leads him from his comfortable home life into a daring heist. A scene from the movie shows Garfield snacking on Popchips Nacho while lounging, which aligns with the product’s placement as a go-to snack for the character.
To further engage fans, Popchips is conducting a Hometown Screening Sweepstakes with prizes including a year’s supply of Popchips and a private screening of the movie. Additional promotional activities involve interactive social media campaigns on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, where fans can play with Garfield-themed augmented reality filters and games.
Additionally, starting May 3, an immersive marketing activation will take place in Los Angeles with a giant mural at 8201 Melrose Ave. This installation features Garfield with Popchips and invites passersby to interact through augmented reality, enhancing the physical experience and driving anticipation for both the snack and the movie.
