J. Mattingly 1845 Distillery, established by Jeff Mattingly, a descendant of distilling pioneer John Graves Mattingly, is now offering its double-staved bourbon for online delivery to 45 U.S. states. This service is made possible through a partnership with LiquidRails, an online beverage alcohol e-commerce provider.
J. Mattingly 1845 employs a proprietary double-staving process for all its whiskeys. This technique involves breaking down old barrels into large chunks of barrel staves and adding them to other barrels. According to Bruce Abbott, President of Liquor Stores USA, North, this process increases the surface area of charred barrel staves in contact with the whiskey, enhancing its flavor and color. The resulting whiskey blends are said to exceed the sum of their parts, with notes of caramel and vanilla.
Currently available for online purchase is “The Greatest 2 oz in Bourbon” series, a tribute to Kentucky’s horse racing heritage. This series will soon be expanded to include Mogadishu Mile Bourbon, honoring the Battle of Mogadishu and the soldiers who lost their lives during Operation Restore Hope in 1993. A portion of the sales from Mogadishu Mile Bourbon will support Kentucky Wounded Heroes.
J. Mattingly 1845 also offers a custom bourbon creation option online. Customers can select their preferred mash bill from hundreds of double-staved proprietary barrels, and customize their bottle, label, closure, and personal name for their bourbon. These personalized bottles are crafted to customer specifications and shipped directly to them.
J. Mattingly 1845 Bourbon and the custom bourbon creation option are available online at jmattingly1845.com and at the distillery in Frankfort, KY. Gift cards are also available for the custom bourbon creation experience. Prices for the online bottles start at $120 for a 750 mL bottle.
