Casio America, Inc. has announced the newest addition to the MR-G line of luxury G-SHOCK timepieces, the MRGB2100B-1A. This model features a full-metal exterior with advanced materials and hand finishes, drawing inspiration from traditional Japanese techniques. The MRGB2100B-1A continues G-SHOCK’s tradition of creating durable and culturally significant watches.
The MRGB2100B-1A is inspired by the ancient Japanese interlocking woodworking technique of kigumi, which originated in the Heian period. This method uses intricately carved wood ends to form a sturdy framework without metal or nails. The watch features a Multi-Component structure made from 27 separate components, each meticulously polished to ensure a flawless finish. The band includes dimpled sections constructed from individual components, showcasing the artisanal craftsmanship, with mirror finishes achieved using Sallaz polishing.
The dial design incorporates elements inspired by kigumi, with a corrugated base surface and intricate openings that form a geometric pattern. These openings allow light for solar power generation, giving the dial a profound metallic black finish. The index mark at 12 o’clock features an intricately assembled two-part structure.
The MRGB2100B-1A includes a Multi-Guard structure that offers superior shock absorption by incorporating buffering between the bezel and case. This design protects the module from impacts, ensuring both durability and aesthetic appeal. The top bezel is crafted from COBARION and the band links from DAT55G, materials stronger than pure titanium. A Ti64 titanium alloy is used for the case, case back, and buttons, enhancing durability and aesthetic appeal. Each component is meticulously developed in Japan, highlighting G-SHOCK’s expert craftsmanship.
The timepiece includes various advanced features:
- Shock-resistant structure
- ISO 764-compliant magnetism resistance
- 200M water resistance
- Tough Solar power
- Smartphone Link
- Radio-controlled (Multiband 6)
- Auto hand home position correction
- LED light (Super Illuminator)
- Date display and day indicator
