Hill’s Pet Nutrition and its parent company Colgate-Palmolive have announced a partnership with The Street Dog Coalition, a nonprofit organization that provides free veterinary care and related services to pet parents who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. This collaboration will enable The Street Dog Coalition to distribute essential oral health and hygiene products, as well as Hill’s pet food, to the communities it serves. The initiative supports a One Health approach, recognizing the interconnection between people, animals, plants, and the shared environment.
The partnership was highlighted at a special Street Dog Coalition pop-up veterinary clinic held on June 24, 2024, during the American Veterinary Medical Association Convention in Austin, Texas. At this event, The Street Dog Coalition unveiled a new RV, which will extend its reach to rural communities with limited access to veterinary care. The RV was funded in part by Hill’s and Colgate.
Dr. Hilary Wheeler, Medical Director for The Street Dog Coalition, expressed enthusiasm for the expanded collaboration, noting that the increased support from Hill’s and Colgate-Palmolive will make veterinary care and pet nutrition more accessible while also supporting oral health for people.
Hill’s veterinarians and team members volunteer at community clinics hosted by The Street Dog Coalition throughout the year. Pet parents attending these clinics will now receive care packages that include free essential oral health and hygiene products, in addition to Hill’s Science Diet dog or cat nutrition.
Dr. Karen Shenoy, US Chief Veterinary Officer for Hill’s Pet Nutrition, emphasized that the partnership aligns with Hill’s mission of transforming pets’ lives through science-led nutrition and Colgate’s goal of reimagining a healthier future for people, their pets, and the planet. The collaboration aims to empower pet parents experiencing homelessness by helping them keep themselves and their pets healthy.
