Lionsgate’s upcoming adaptation of the popular video game franchise Borderlands is generating excitement among moviegoers, and White Castle is joining the anticipation with a special promotion. White Castle will offer limited-edition, Borderlands-themed packaging, providing a unique augmented reality (AR) experience.
The specially designed packaging will feature QR codes, allowing smartphone users to access seven different AR experiences. These experiences will bring Claptrap, a character from the Borderlands universe, to life. The packaging will be available on six-count packs of White Castle 100% beef Sliders, including Original, Classic Cheese, and Jalapeño Cheese varieties, in grocery stores nationwide. It will also be featured on the Crave Clutch and large soft drink cups in White Castle restaurants.
In addition to promoting the film, which releases on August 9, the collaboration marks White Castle’s largest partnership for a film release. Vice President Jamie Richardson expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, noting that it enhances the enjoyment of Sliders by integrating the Borderlands experience into both home and restaurant settings. Richardson highlighted the suitability of Sliders as a convenient food option for gamers and moviegoers alike.
The Borderlands franchise is renowned for its unique art style, humor, and cooperative gameplay. White Castle has been a favorite among gamers, known for its easy-to-eat, shareable Sliders. The AR experiences aim to deepen the connection between fans of the game and the iconic restaurant chain.
To access the AR experiences, customers can scan QR codes on the Borderlands-themed packaging. These codes will be found on six-count retail packs of Original, Classic Cheese, and Jalapeño Cheese Sliders, as well as the Crave Clutch and large soft drink cups in White Castle restaurants.
