Batteries Plus, the nation’s leading specialty battery retailer, has announced a new partnership with the Green Bay Packers to launch a battery recycling initiative. This initiative is supported by a potential $7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy and aims to promote environmental sustainability by making battery recycling more accessible and mainstream.
The initiative will introduce visible recycling stations at Wisconsin Batteries Plus locations and an interactive booth at Lambeau Field. This booth will educate consumers on proper battery recycling practices. Cirba Solutions, the preferred recycling partner of Batteries Plus for 14 years, will facilitate the recycling process. Fans are encouraged to recycle their used batteries at local Batteries Plus stores. Additionally, recycling contests will be held with local schools, with the winning class receiving an exclusive Lambeau Field experience.
The interactive booth will appear at select Packers games, including preseason Family Night and games against the Minnesota Vikings and Arizona Cardinals. Attendees can also enter to win exclusive Packers experiences and prizes.
Scott Williams, CEO of Batteries Plus, emphasized the importance of this grant in making battery recycling accessible by eliminating recycling fees and developing advanced recycling workstations. He expressed excitement about partnering with the Department of Energy and the Green Bay Packers to promote this initiative.
Aaron Popkey, Packers Director of Public Affairs, stated that the Packers are proud to support this initiative as it aligns with their commitment to sustainability and responsible recycling practices.
The Department of Energy’s $7 million grant discussions aim to help install portable battery recycling drop-offs at Batteries Plus stores and educate consumers on lithium battery recycling. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm highlighted the importance of this initiative for American energy independence and responsible recycling of critical materials.
The initiative will begin in Wisconsin and eventually roll out nationwide. Batteries Plus has been a leader in battery recycling for 30 years, processing millions of pounds of batteries annually. This partnership with the Department of Energy and the Green Bay Packers will enhance their efforts to make battery recycling more mainstream and efficient, thereby protecting the environment.
