Casio has announced the release of the DW-5000R, the latest addition to its G-SHOCK line. This new model pays homage to the original DW-5000C, the first G-SHOCK watch introduced in 1983, which pioneered the genre of shock-resistant timepieces. The DW-5000R is designed to replicate the look and feel of the original with meticulous attention to detail.
The DW-5000R retains the iconic red, blue, and yellow accents of the original face design. Its band mirrors the original’s length, texture, and positioning of indentations, while the flat bezel design reproduces the “PROTECTION” and “G-SHOCK” letterings seen on the 1983 model. The watch features a stainless-steel center case and screw-lock back engraved with the “Shock Resistant” marking, and it is produced at Yamagata Casio, where the first G-SHOCK was manufactured.
In addition to its classic aesthetic, the DW-5000R incorporates modern updates, including a high-brightness LED backlight and eco-friendly materials such as bio-based resin for the bezel and band. This use of bio-based resin reflects Casio’s efforts to reduce environmental impact while maintaining durability and toughness.
The DW-5000R celebrates the origins of the G-SHOCK line while introducing features that meet contemporary standards, establishing it as a notable addition to the Casio lineup.
