Casio America, Inc. has announced the release of the MRGB2000JS1A, the newest model in its G-SHOCK MR-G line, which is known for its connection to Japan’s craftsmanship traditions. This limited edition timepiece is available in only 110 units in the United States and represents a collaboration between Casio and two renowned Japanese artisans, Teruhira Kamiyama and Mamoru Nomura.
The MRGB2000JS1A is constructed from recrystallized hybrid titanium, featuring deep-layer hardening and a Diamond-Like Carbon coating to enhance its durability and aesthetic appeal. The watch dial incorporates a “Tsukamaki” pattern, reminiscent of the traditional wrapping of a Japanese Katana sword handle, and includes a mother-of-pearl in-dial. The case is finished in blue AIP with an “Ao Gai Nuri” texture, while the bracelet band showcases an ogai-nuri blue shell lacquer design that produces a distinctive sparkle under UV light.
Kamiyama, an emerging figure in modern Japanese swordsmithing, has contributed to the watch’s design with an intricate blade pattern and the engraving “San,” reflecting traditional sword-making artistry. Nomura, recognized as a Traditional Master Craftsman since 2001, has applied the ancient “Raden” technique, which utilizes blue shellfish, to enhance the timepiece’s detailing.
The MRGB2000JS1A incorporates several advanced features, including shock resistance, magnetic resistance, and a water resistance of up to 200 meters. It also offers Tough Solar power, Bluetooth smartphone connectivity, dual time functionality, a 1/1-second chronograph, automatic hand home position correction, an LED light, and a date display with a day indicator. This model exemplifies the fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology in watchmaking.
