The Muff Liquor Company, a premium spirits producer based in Muff, County Donegal, Ireland, has announced its official launch in the United States. The company offers a range of three super-premium liquors: a potato-based Irish Vodka, an Irish Gin, both distilled six times, and a peated Irish Whiskey that undergoes triple distillation and five-part blending. These products are now available nationally in retail outlets, bars, restaurants, and online, reflecting the company’s commitment to quality and craftsmanship.
Founded in 2018 by Laura Bonner, a native of Donegal, The Muff Liquor Company aims to honor the region’s heritage and showcase its unique flavors. Bonner’s inspiration stems from her grandfather, Philip McClenaghen, a potato farmer known for his innovative approach and original Poitín recipes. The company emphasizes the use of high-quality ingredients, particularly premium Irish potatoes sourced from Donegal, to create spirits with a distinctive taste and smooth texture.
Laura Bonner has assembled a team of notable investors, including actor Russell Crowe, musicians Ed Sheeran and Ronan Keating, and comedian Jimmy Carr, to assist in the brand’s global expansion. These investors have acknowledged the quality of Muff’s spirits and contributed to enhancing the brand’s visibility and credibility.
Before establishing The Muff Liquor Company, Laura Bonner earned a law degree from Dublin Business School and built a successful career in real estate in London. After years in the industry, she returned to her hometown to pursue her vision of creating a distillery, inspired by her grandfather’s legacy.
The company has partnered with Lucas Bols for its U.S. launch. Brett Dunne, Managing Director for Lucas Bols USA, noted the company’s long history in the spirits industry and expressed enthusiasm for introducing Muff’s quality products to American consumers.
The Muff Liquor Company’s offerings aim to create enjoyable social experiences. The Vodka, Gin, and Whiskey are designed to highlight the craftsmanship and heritage of Donegal. The Vodka is characterized by its clean flavor, the Gin features a blend of botanicals and a hint of Champagne extract, while the Whiskey is noted for its complex flavor profile derived from a blend of malt and grain whiskey. Each spirit is priced at $34.99.
