Elegoo has announced that pre-orders for its new Centauri Carbon, the company’s first CoreXY FDM 3D printer, will begin at 9 AM EST on February 17. This model represents a shift from Elegoo’s previous Neptune series, aiming to enhance the user experience with improved speed and reliability for both casual and professional users.
The Centauri Carbon features a print volume of 256 × 256 × 256 mm and is designed to be user-friendly. Its enclosed structure and rounded corners make it safer for households with children and pets. The printer comes fully assembled, allowing users to start printing immediately. It includes a built-in filter to eliminate harmful gases during operation, contributing to a healthier workspace. Additionally, the design incorporates a right-side filament holder for better accessibility and dual glass panels for monitoring prints.
Constructed with a robust integrated die-cast frame, reinforced by aluminum alloy pillars and stainless steel side panels, the Centauri Carbon is engineered for stability and high-quality prints. It is equipped with hardened nozzles suitable for printing carbon fiber and other abrasive materials. The printer supports multiple filament types, including ABS, ASA, PLA, PETG, and TPU, and features a flexible magnetic plate with a dual-sided surface to enhance print adhesion. The heated bed reaches a temperature of 30°C for PLA prints, which aids in minimizing warping.
The Centauri Carbon is capable of achieving print speeds of up to 500 mm/s and can accelerate at 20,000 mm/s². A custom smartphone stand can be produced in approximately 30 minutes, according to Elegoo Lab. The printer includes four pressure sensors and a proprietary algorithm to facilitate automatic bed leveling, ensuring a perfect first layer, which is essential for successful 3D printing.
Additional features of the Centauri Carbon include custom firmware with slicer and Wi-Fi support for enhanced functionality, a camera for time-lapse recording and monitoring, built-in chamber lighting for visibility, and a 4.3-inch capacitive touch screen for user interaction. The printer also employs vibration and pressure advance compensation technologies to optimize extrusion quality.
