B&H has announced the release of Nikon’s latest lens, the Nikkor Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ lens, which reflects the company’s renewed focus on video capabilities. This lens is Nikon’s first Power Zoom lens designed for its FX full-frame format and is intended to complement the Z9, Z8, and Z6 III mirrorless cameras.
The Nikkor Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ lens features a versatile focal range suitable for various filming scenarios, particularly in documentary and location work. Its internal focusing mechanism and short minimum focusing distance enhance its usability for videographers working alone or in small teams.
The lens incorporates a stepping motor autofocus system and offers Power Zoom functionality, allowing for precise digital control over aperture and zoom operations. Users can customize the zoom ring’s angle and rotation direction, and the lens supports remote zoom control via software applications.
With a minimum focusing distance of 13.4 inches at the wide end and 22.4 inches at the telephoto end, the lens is capable of close-up work. When paired with compatible Nikon cameras, the lens enables 4K video recording with an equivalent angle of view of 270mm at the telephoto end, and it includes a Synchro mode for simultaneous optical and Hi-Res zoom functions.
Weighing 2.66 pounds, the lens is designed for stability and compatibility with professional accessories such as gimbals and follow-focus systems. It features Nikon’s Meso Amorphous coating to minimize ghosting and flare, along with a fluorine coat for added protection against dust and moisture.
The lens includes a rectangular hood to control light and a filter adjustment window for convenience. It also features assignable buttons and a distinctive design that aligns with Nikon’s cinema lens aesthetic.
