Kavalan Distillery has recently introduced its latest whisky, the Solist Palo Cortado, which is quickly selling out following its launch in Taiwan last month. This new expression, presented in a 750ml bottle with an alcohol by volume (ABV) ranging from 50 to 59.9%, expands Kavalan’s sherry cask portfolio to seven distinct varieties, including Fino, Oloroso, Amontillado, Manzanilla, Pedro Ximénez, Moscatel, and now Palo Cortado. Each whisky in the Solist series is bottled at single cask strength, is non chill-filtered, and retains natural color to preserve the full spectrum of flavors.
The CEO of Kavalan, Mr. YT Lee, described the brand’s offerings as a “Sherry Cask Encyclopedia,” emphasizing the comprehensive nature of their sherry cask portfolio. He noted that the addition of Solist Palo Cortado completes the largest family of sherry cask whiskies in the industry. Mr. Lee remarked, “With Palo Cortado sherry accounting for less than 1% of global sherry production, we saved one of the rarest and most unique sherry casks to the last.” He further elaborated on the flavor profile, stating that the Palo Cortado uniquely combines the elegance of Amontillado with the richness of Oloroso, presenting intricate aromas of cocoa powder, citrus, dried fruits, pastries, and toffee.
The Solist Palo Cortado is available for purchase through Kavalan’s official distribution channels in Taiwan, which include the Kavalan Distillery Shop, various Kavalan Whisky shops, the Kavalan Whisky Bar, and select local liquor stores.
This whisky, aged in a rare Palo Cortado sherry cask sourced from Spain’s Sherry Triangle, is characterized by its caramel mahogany color. The nose reveals a rich and complex bouquet, featuring cocoa powder and citrus, alongside sweet notes of matured dried fruits and toffee. The palate offers flavors reminiscent of orange pound cake, with rich dried fruits harmonizing with vanilla and toasted biscuit aromas, complemented by lingering caramel toffee and crushed walnut notes.
The packaging of the Solist Palo Cortado is designed in vibrant yellow, symbolizing the whisky’s versatility and culinary pairing potential. It is presented in an elegant wooden box that underscores the complexity and sophistication of the whisky. The label features a blend of saturated colors, enhancing its visual appeal and depth.
