Michter’s Master Distiller Dan McKee and Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson have confirmed the upcoming release of Michter’s US*1 Barrel Strength Rye, which is set to begin shipping to various establishments in March. Joseph J. Magliocco, the President of Michter’s, noted the evolution of American rye whiskey, stating, “When we began selling our rye many years ago, American rye whiskey was virtually an afterthought for a lot of people. Our team takes pride in our ryes, and it’s great to see how this category of wonderful whiskey has returned to the forefront.”
Michter’s US*1 Barrel Strength Rye features a mashbill predominantly consisting of rye grain, complemented by corn and malted barley, aligning with the Kentucky style of rye. McKee remarked on the unexpected appeal of Michter’s rye, saying, “We often have people at a tasting that say they are not rye drinkers, but when they taste Michter’s they are surprised by how much they enjoy it.” He emphasized that this barrel strength variant offers a balance of sweetness and spice while retaining traditional rye characteristics.
The US*1 Barrel Strength Rye is classified as a single barrel product, with an average proof of 110.5 (55.25% ABV) for the 2025 release. The suggested retail price for a 750ml bottle in the United States is $120. Wilson described the whiskey as a notable representation of American rye, highlighting its complex flavor profile that includes baking spice, dark fruit, toffee, and floral notes, culminating in a smooth finish.
In October 2024, Michter’s achieved recognition as The World’s Most Admired Whiskey for two consecutive years, as determined by an international voting academy, according to Drinks International. The brand has a longstanding tradition of producing high-quality American whiskeys.
