Hyundai Motor Company has announced the release of its updated 2024 Sonata midsize sedan. The event was conducted through a YouTube news conference where key Hyundai personnel discussed the vehicle’s various updates and features. The 2024 Sonata will be available for sale in the winter.
Simon Loasby, head of the Hyundai Style Group, and José Muñoz, president and Global COO of Hyundai Motor Company, were among the speakers. Muñoz addressed the sedan market, stating that nearly three million sedans have been sold in the U.S. in the last year. He also mentioned that for the first time, the Sonata would feature All-Wheel Drive (AWD), which is expected to attract a broader customer base.
The new Sonata comes equipped with Hyundai’s TRACtion (HTRAC) AWD system, which is paired with a 2.5L engine. The system actively distributes torque between front and rear wheels based on road conditions and driving scenarios. Multiple variants of the Sonata will be available: a standard internal combustion engine (ICE) model, the sporty N Line, and a hybrid electric version (HEV), all with a range of engine options.
The design of the 2024 Sonata has been updated to reflect Hyundai’s theme of ‘Sensuous Sportiness.’ The front of the car features a new grille and larger air intakes, while the rear showcases new H-lights that emphasize the car’s high-tech character. The interior design also features updates, including ambient lighting and high-tech details.
The Sonata N Line, a sportier variant, will come with specific design features including an enlarged front bumper grille area, exclusive 19-inch wheels, and a rear spoiler. The N Line will also offer special features like Active Sound Design, Launch Control, N Powershift, and Rev Matching. Exterior color options and interior trims will vary, with unique choices available for the N Line.
Regarding technology, the 2024 Sonata will feature a Digital Key 2 system, a panoramic curved display with a 12.3-inch driver information cluster and 12.3-inch audio-video navigation system, and a 12-speaker Bose Premium Sound System. The vehicle will also support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, Over-the-Air (OTA) software updates will be available.
The new Sonata will offer several safety features, such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 1.5 (FCA 1.5), Rear Cross-traffic Collision-avoidance Assist (RCCA), and Blind-spot Collision Assist (BCA), among others. Remote Smart Parking Assist and Rear Occupant Alert are other notable features.
Lastly, the vehicle will offer various powertrains including a 2.5L engine, a 2.5L turbo engine developed specifically for the N Line, and a 2.0L hybrid electric (HEV) engine. The HEV model will be equipped with e-Motion Drive for a smooth driving experience and will feature paddle shifters and a regenerative braking mode for improved fuel efficiency.
