Apple has launched the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. These new models are constructed with aerospace-grade titanium, making them the lightest Pro models Apple has produced to date. The design includes contoured edges and a new Action button, which can be customized by users.
The camera system has been enhanced, boasting the equivalent of seven professional lenses. The 48MP Main camera system now supports a 24MP default resolution. Additionally, the iPhone 15 Pro Max features a 5x Telephoto camera. Other camera features include improvements to Night mode, Smart HDR, and the next generation of portrait photography with Focus and Depth Control.
The devices are powered by the A17 Pro chip, which is designed for improved gaming experiences and overall performance. The new USB-C connector on these models supports USB 3 speeds, which are up to 20 times faster than USB 2. This advancement, combined with new video formats, facilitates more efficient professional workflows. An added feature is the Roadside Assistance via satellite, which can assist users in case of car issues in remote areas.
The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will be available in four finishes: black titanium, white titanium, blue titanium, and natural titanium. Pre-orders are set to start on September 15, with the devices becoming available on September 22.
In terms of design, the new iPhones will be available in 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch display sizes. The titanium used in these models is also used in spacecraft, known for its high strength-to-weight ratio. The design also incorporates the Ceramic Shield on the front and a new substructure made from 100 percent recycled aluminum.
The Action button on these models offers more functionality than the previous switch used for toggling between ring and silent modes. Users can now quickly access the camera, flashlight, and other features.
The A17 Pro chip in these models is the first 3-nanometer chip in the industry. It brings several improvements, including a faster CPU and Neural Engine. The GPU has also been redesigned, offering up to 20 percent faster performance. This chip supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing, which enhances graphics and augmented reality (AR) applications. The A17 Pro also includes an AV1 decoder for better video streaming and a new USB controller for faster data transfer and video output.
The camera system on these iPhones offers several advanced features. The 48MP Main camera provides a 24MP default resolution, and users can switch between different focal lengths. The iPhone 15 Pro Max’s Telephoto camera offers a 5x optical zoom at 120 mm. Other features include the ability to take portraits without switching to Portrait mode and adjusting the focus point after a photo is taken.
Additional camera features include an improved Night mode, a new Smart HDR, and enhanced video quality. The devices also support faster data transfer speeds with an optional USB 3 cable. They can record ProRes video directly to external storage and support the Academy Color Encoding System (ACES) for color workflows.
