A&W is enhancing its annual National Root Beer Float Day promotion on August 6th with a new nationwide challenge. The challenge invites participants to demonstrate their strength for a free float by showing off their “Float Flex”—a muscle-flexing pose—at any participating U.S. A&W location between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. local time.

The campaign aims to prepare customers for the hefty A&W Root Beer Float, which consists of approximately 3 pounds 5 ounces of Made Fresh Root Beer and creamy vanilla soft serve in a frosty glass mug. A&W has engaged social influencers, such as Keith Habersberger of The Try Guys, to promote the campaign and created a home exercise kit featuring weighted Root Beer Float replicas, headbands, wristbands, and more.

Participants can obtain a free small Root Beer Float without making a purchase, although donations to A&W’s nonprofit partner, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), are encouraged. Over the years, A&W has contributed over $1 million to veteran-related charities through this annual promotion.

Liz Bazner, VP of Marketing & Innovation at A&W, highlighted the float’s weight as a potential challenge for some customers, prompting the creation of the “Float Flex” campaign to ensure everyone is ready to enjoy their free float on National Root Beer Float Day.
