In celebration of International Pineapple Day, Dole Packaged Foods, LLC is launching the Dole Can It Pineapple Snack Hackathon, a three-week-long competition aimed at encouraging recipe innovators, snack enthusiasts, and Dole Canned Pineapple fans to create original snack recipes. The competition invites participants to submit their best creations based on a different theme each week, with the opportunity to win prizes and a grand prize for the best snack hack.
The Dole Can It Pineapple Snack Hackathon seeks to find the next popular snack, following in the footsteps of the Pineapple Upside Down Cake, which was popularized by a Dole recipe contest in 1925. While canned pineapple is a well-loved and versatile ingredient, its potential as a snack centerpiece is often overlooked. Dole is encouraging consumers to explore this potential by asking, “Can It Pineapple?” when creating their unique snack recipes.
Orzse Hodi, SVP & Managing Director for Dole Packaged Foods, Americas, emphasized Dole’s long-standing tradition of incorporating quality pineapple into everyday recipes. He expressed excitement about the innovative ideas that fans will bring to the competition.
How the Dole Can It Pineapple Snack Hackathon Works:
Participants are encouraged to get creative with their submissions, which will be judged on creativity, craveability, presentation, and adherence to the weekly theme. To enter, participants can share up to three Dole Canned Pineapple snack hack recipes (one per week) with a short video (no longer than 30 seconds) via TikTok or Instagram, using the hashtags #DoleSnackHackathonContest and #CanItPineapple, and tagging @DoleSunshine.
The weekly themes are as follows:
- Week 1: Tastes of Nostalgia – connecting favorite past times through pineapple
- Week 2: Globally Inspired – leveraging cultural staples and flavors from around the world
- Week 3: Simple Bites – made with five ingredients or less
A panel of judges, including fan favorite and food creator Faith Christensen, TV personality and social media chef Roice Bethel, and Dole’s Executive Chef and Culinary Innovation Director, Chef James Bickmore-Hutt, will review all entries. Each week, a winning recipe will be selected based on the theme, and an overall grand prize winner will be awarded.
Prizes for the competition include a two-night getaway for two at Staypineapple, a hotel known for its pineapple-themed décor, a summer supply of Dole Canned Pineapple, and “best snack hack” bragging rights.
