Rand McNally has released the 2026 edition of its Road Atlas, marking the 102nd iteration of this well-known publication. This year’s edition is significant as it commemorates both the 250th anniversary of America’s founding and the 100th anniversary of Route 66. The atlas encourages travelers to explore the diverse culinary offerings across the United States.
The 2026 Road Atlas features 11 curated culinary road trips that highlight regional cuisines, ranging from New England seafood to Southern barbecue, Tex-Mex from the Southwest, and craft breweries in Colorado. Each road trip includes a ‘Chef’s Day Off’ itinerary from a local celebrity chef, providing insights and recommendations for enhancing the travel experience in their respective cities.
Joseph Roark, Chairman of Rand McNally, stated, “We are excited to offer Rand McNally’s best of class road atlas that guides travelers and encourages them to explore the heart of America through its incredible cuisine and amazing vistas.” He emphasized the atlas’s role in celebrating the unique flavors of the country, particularly in light of the significant anniversaries being recognized.
For the first time, Rand McNally has collaborated with Atlas Obscura, which contributes its expertise in uncovering lesser-known attractions and experiences for each road trip. This partnership also includes a special itinerary featuring unique eateries along Route 66, paying tribute to the highway’s long-standing legacy. Marc Haeringer, Director of Publishing and Print Media at Atlas Obscura, remarked, “Collaborating with Rand McNally on this special edition was a natural fit for Atlas Obscura.”
The 2026 Road Atlas includes updated maps, detailed city inset maps, and comprehensive travel planning information. Additionally, a limited-edition illustrated cover by artist Marianna Fierro will be available on select Midsize Easy to Read Road Atlases. This edition aims to provide a thorough resource for travelers looking to navigate the culinary landscape of America while honoring its historical milestones.
