Square Enix has unveiled a new trailer for its upcoming action-RPG, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, during PlayStation’s State of Play broadcast. The game, which is a continuation of the Final Fantasy VII remake project, is set to release on February 29, 2024, for the PlayStation 5 console. Additionally, the company revealed that the first installment, Final Fantasy VII Remake, has achieved over seven million shipments and digital sales globally.
The trailer showcased familiar characters such as Cloud, Aerith, Barret, and Tifa navigating a world filled with sci-fi and fantasy elements. They are joined by new playable characters, including Yuffie, Red XIII, and Cait Sith, in their mission to confront Sephiroth, a formidable adversary.
In Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, players will engage in battles using synergy abilities to enhance character relationships. The game promises a vast world for exploration, with reimagined classic locations, side content, mini-games, and additional narratives about the planet’s inhabitants.
Square Enix also released the key art for the game, designed by Creative Director, Tetsuya Nomura. The artwork symbolizes the central themes of the story, with Sephiroth at the core, and Cloud and Zack representing the impact of Sephiroth’s actions.
Yoshinori Kitase, the game’s producer, stated that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will incorporate elements from the previous game, introducing an expansive world map and synergy abilities. The narrative will be more dynamic, with significant plot developments. The game can be played as a standalone experience, but a recap of the previous game will be available for those seeking a deeper understanding.
Naoki Hamaguchi, the director, emphasized the expansive nature of the game, with Cloud and his team venturing out of Midgar in pursuit of Sephiroth. The game will offer nearly 100 hours of exploration, stories, mini-games, and encounters.
Tetsuya Nomura, the Creative Director, highlighted that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second in a trilogy. This installment will cover the journey outside Midgar up to the midpoint of the original Final Fantasy VII. Feedback from the previous title has been incorporated, with an increase in the number of characters.
Square Enix also detailed the various editions of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth available for pre-order. These range from standard physical and digital editions to a collector’s edition with a Sephiroth statue and other exclusive items. A Twin Pack, including Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, is also available.
Utilizing the capabilities of the PlayStation 5, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth aims to provide players with advanced graphics and an immersive experience. The game is scheduled for release on February 29, 2024, exclusively for the PlayStation 5 console.
