Garmin has introduced the Varia Vue headlight camera, a new accessory aimed at enhancing safety and visibility for cyclists on roadways. This device features a 4K front-facing camera that automatically saves video footage in the event of an incident, alongside a headlight capable of emitting up to 600 lumens. The Varia Vue is designed to provide cyclists with additional peace of mind during their rides, while also ensuring impressive battery life. It can be paired with the Varia RCT715 radar taillight camera for comprehensive ride recording from both front and rear perspectives.
The built-in camera records high-resolution video, supported by Electronic Image Stabilization to maintain steady footage. When connected to Wi-Fi, users can upload saved footage to Garmin Vault for secure storage, provided they have an active subscription. The Varia app allows cyclists to review and edit their video clips after each ride.
In terms of lighting, the Varia Vue offers five modes that adjust automatically based on the rider’s speed and environment when used with a compatible Edge cycling computer. The headlight features a cutoff beam to minimize glare for oncoming traffic.
The device boasts a battery life of up to seven hours in day flash mode while recording, and up to nine hours when the camera is off. It can also be charged during use for extended rides. Settings for both the camera and headlight can be adjusted via a compatible Edge cycling computer or the Varia app. The integrated microphone captures audio during rides, and the setup process is straightforward, allowing for easy integration with existing bike mounts.
The Varia Vue is currently available for a suggested retail price of $549.99. It can be viewed at the Garmin booth during the Sea Otter Classic event.
