Generac Holdings, Inc., a designer and manufacturer of energy technology solutions, has announced the launch of a new home standby generator, featuring a 28kW model, which is the most powerful air-cooled generator available on the market. This introduction expands Generac’s existing range of air-cooled home standby generators, which includes models from 10 to 28kW. The new generators are designed to integrate with other Generac products, such as ecobee smart thermostats and PWRcell battery systems.
The announcement follows a significant year in 2024, during which the United States experienced approximately 1.5 billion hours of power outages, marking the highest level since 2010. As power quality declines and costs rise—up by about 30% per kilowatt hour since 2020—there is an increasing need for reliable energy solutions.
Generac’s CEO, Aaron Jagdfeld, noted that the new generator design reflects extensive feedback from customers and dealers, aimed at addressing the growing energy demands amid grid instability and rising utility costs. The company has a long history of providing home standby generators, which have offered peace of mind to millions of customers over the past 60 years.
The new generator design incorporates several advanced features, including built-in cellular connectivity for real-time monitoring via smartphone, an advanced controller for enhanced diagnostic capabilities, and an all-aluminum cabinet for improved durability and aesthetics. Additionally, it features an Electronic Fuel and Ignition Control system for better motor starting and fuel efficiency, as well as superior generator output quality suitable for sensitive electronics.
Generac also emphasizes its extensive distribution network, with home standby generators available through over 9,000 authorized dealers and numerous wholesale and retail partners across the country. More information about Generac’s standby generator products can be found on their website. The new generator design is expected to be available in the second half of 2025.
