J. Mattingly 1845 Distillery is introducing new whiskies this fall, including the Bourbon 31 Blended Bourbon and a customizable whiskey option through its Craft Your Bottle program, ideal for Halloween celebrations.
Bourbon 31 is a limited-edition release, blending three whiskies that have undergone the distillery’s proprietary Double Staving process. This blend consists of 51% Bourbon, 29% Light Whiskey, and 20% Rye Whiskey. The Double Staving technique enhances flavor and color by increasing the whiskey’s exposure to charred barrel staves. The Classic Bourbon used in this blend recently received a score of 96 from whiskey expert Jim Murray.
The flavor profile of Bourbon 31 reflects traditional fall tastes, including pumpkin, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Harry Richart, president of J. Mattingly 1845 Distillery, noted that the blending aimed to capture the essence of autumn while playfully changing the brand name to celebrate the Halloween season.
Tasting notes for Bourbon 31 highlight a nose of nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, and walnut, with flavors of brown sugar and fall baking spices. The finish includes notes of pumpkin bread, baker’s chocolate, and seasoned oak. Bourbon 31 is available for purchase online and at the J. Mattingly 1845 Distillery in Frankfort, KY, with a suggested retail price of $60 for a 750 mL bottle at 98 proof.
Additionally, the Craft Your Bottle program allows customers to create their own whiskey by selecting from bourbon, light whiskey, or rye whiskey recipes, customizing bottle shape and labels, and choosing wax colors.
