John Paul DeJoria, an entrepreneur and philanthropist known for founding Patrón Tequila and Paul Mitchell hair care, has announced the acquisition of Waterloo Gin, the first gin brand distilled in Texas. Developed by Treaty Oak Distilling, located in Dripping Springs near Austin, Waterloo Gin was launched in 2009 and named after Austin’s original name.
The Waterloo Gin product line features Waterloo Antique and Waterloo No. 9 Gins. The brand is recognized for its quality and unique flavor, incorporating local botanicals that reflect the Texas Hill Country. Waterloo No. 9 Gin, with a proof of 94, is crafted in the New American style using nine botanicals, including lavender, grapefruit, and pecan. Waterloo Antique Gin, also at 94 proof, is aged for two years in first-use medium char American white oak barrels, resulting in a flavor profile that combines rich wood notes with herbal elements. Both gins are free from gluten, carbohydrates, and additives.
DeJoria expressed confidence in the quality of Waterloo Gin, stating his commitment to expanding the brand’s reach among bartenders, retailers, and consumers nationwide. The brand will be managed by CEO Justin Meigs, who previously played a key role in launching and growing Empress Gin, achieving significant sales milestones before the company’s exit in 2022.
Daniel Barnes, the founder of Waterloo Gin at Treaty Oak, shared enthusiasm about the brand’s future under DeJoria’s leadership, noting the extensive experience and passion of DeJoria and his team.
