Sanrio, the global lifestyle brand known for characters such as Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll, and Kuromi, has announced the 40th anniversary of its Character Ranking contest. This event allows fans worldwide to vote for their favorite characters from a selection of 90.
The contest aims to celebrate the unique traits of these characters, offering fans an opportunity to engage with both familiar and new figures within the Sanrio universe. Jill Koch, Senior Vice President of Brand Management and Marketing at Sanrio Inc., stated, “Sanrio’s annual Character Ranking contest is a true testament to the enduring love for our characters and the vibrant community that supports them.” She emphasized that the contest serves as a celebration of the characters that have inspired many over the years.
Voting will be available online at sanrio.com and in-person at all Sanrio stores, cafes, and for the first time, at Hot Topic stores from April 10 to May 25. In-store participants can receive a complimentary “I Voted” sticker while supplies last. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to enter a sweepstakes for a trip for two to Japan to attend the final character ranking reveal at Sanrio FES 2025, which will be announced during the event and online on June 29. Further details regarding the sweepstakes will be released on April 25, with the winner to be announced shortly after the voting concludes on May 25.
