MasterClass has introduced a new course, A Sommelier’s Snob-Free Guide to Wine, led by Master Sommelier Emily Wines. Available exclusively to MasterClass subscribers, this course aims to demystify wine selection and appreciation, providing practical insights for both casual drinkers and enthusiasts.
Emily Wines, one of only 171 Master Sommeliers in the Americas, will guide members through key aspects of wine tasting, including the five S’s—sight, swirl, smell, sip, and savor. The course covers topics such as decoding wine labels, pairing wines with a range of foods, and selecting bottles that align with individual tastes. It also highlights essential tools and glassware for a complete wine experience.
Wines emphasizes that her class is designed for all levels of experience and occasions, particularly during the holiday season. With her expertise, members will gain confidence in navigating wine selections, whether shopping at a supermarket or a specialty store.
In addition to her achievements as one of only 15 individuals to pass the Master Sommelier Diploma Examination on the first attempt, Wines serves as the Master Sommelier for Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurants. She brings an accessible approach to wine, breaking away from traditional industry conventions.
The course is part of MasterClass’s extensive library, which includes over 200 instructors across a variety of subjects. Subscribers can access the platform’s annual membership for unlimited learning opportunities.
