Leica has announced the launch of the Leica M11-D, the latest addition to its M-System, known for its focus on simplicity and high-quality craftsmanship. The Leica M-System, first introduced in 1954, has been a favorite among photographers worldwide, offering a rangefinder experience that prioritizes image quality and intuitive handling. The new Leica M11-D continues this tradition by removing the rear display, shifting the focus entirely to core photographic elements such as composition, aperture, shutter speed, and ISO settings. In place of the display, the camera features an easy-access ISO dial.
The Leica M11-D offers significant customization options, modern connectivity, and hardware-based authenticity technology, which was first introduced with the Leica M11-P model. The camera features a scratch-resistant matte black finish and forgoes the traditional red Leica logo, emphasizing a discreet and timeless design.
Technologically, the Leica M11-D is equipped with a sensor that allows images to be captured at resolutions of 60, 36, or 18 megapixels. With a 3 GB cache, the camera supports continuous shooting of up to five images per second at 60 MP resolution. Its internal memory of 256 GB provides ample space for storing images, while the battery offers extended use. Weighing 19.05 ounces (including the battery), the M11-D is 4 ounces lighter than its predecessor, making it comfortable to handle during extended shooting sessions.
The camera includes features such as customizable function keys and compatibility with Leica M lenses, which have been in production since 1954. The Leica M11-D utilizes a full-frame BSI CMOS sensor with Triple Resolution Technology and offers an ISO range from 64 to 50,000, allowing it to perform well in low-light conditions.
In addition to its analog-inspired design, the M11-D includes modern connectivity options such as Bluetooth and a USB-C connection. It is certified as a “Made for iPhone and iPad” product, allowing for seamless connectivity with iOS devices. The camera can also be used in conjunction with the Leica FOTOS app, which facilitates photo transfers, remote control, and image review. The app supports both iOS and Android devices and allows users to make adjustments such as white balance and file format preferences.
One of the standout features of the M11-D is its Leica Content Credentials technology, which ensures the authenticity of digital images. This feature, based on the framework of the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI) and the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), allows the authenticity of images to be verified at any time using publicly available tools.
Accompanying the launch of the Leica M11-D are two leather accessories: a black protector designed specifically for the camera and a carrying strap available in black or cognac. The carrying strap is crafted from a single piece of leather and is compatible with all M-Series cameras.
Leica has also introduced new packaging for its products with the M11-D. The packaging, produced in Germany, is made primarily from natural paper, reflecting Leica’s commitment to sustainability.
