LG Electronics USA has announced an expansion of its Energy Star certified Inverter Heat Pump Water Heater line with two new models equipped with demand response capabilities and a water leakage detection sensor. This launch was revealed at the 2024 Energy Star Products Partner Meeting held in Minneapolis from September 17-19, underscoring LG’s commitment to providing advanced heat pump technology for residential water heating solutions.
The new models enhance LG’s portfolio of energy-efficient water heaters, which are designed for eco-conscious homeowners. According to Steve Scarbrough, Senior Vice President and General Manager of LG Air Conditioning Technologies, these additions will further support homeowners seeking energy-efficient solutions.
Both new models are certified by NEEA Tier 4 and California JA-13, boasting high efficiency ratings of 3.93 UEF for the 58-gallon model and 3.90 UEF for the 80-gallon model.
Key features of the new heat pump water heaters include:
- Efficient, Smart Capabilities: The units come with a built-in EcoPort (CTA-2045 Port) and compatibility with the LG ThinQ mobile app, allowing users to select operation modes, set target water temperatures, and perform self-diagnosis.
- Quiet Operation: The units operate at a low noise level of just 42 dB(A) during auto mode.
- Durability and Long Life: An anode rod and enamel coating in the water tank help prevent corrosion and extend the tank’s lifespan.
- User-Friendly Controls: A digital display with simple controls makes operation intuitive.
- Reliability and Safety: The units feature two separate heat sources for backup operation in case of component failure.
Designed to meet the increasing demand for electric solutions as part of broader energy efficiency initiatives, LG’s heat pump water heaters are engineered to operate efficiently in ambient temperatures ranging from 23°F to 120°F, minimizing the need for supplemental electric resistance heat.
Scarbrough emphasized LG’s dedication to advancing heat pump technology to support electrification efforts in America. The new heat pump water heaters were showcased alongside other Energy Star certified products, including HVAC systems and an induction range, at the expo.
As an Energy Star Partner of the Year, LG Electronics USA actively participates in various initiatives, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Manufacturers’ Action Councils and the Advanced Water Heater Initiative. LG is also a member of the Building Decarbonization Coalition, contributing to the transition toward a clean energy future.
