Lowes has introduced Mylow Companion, an AI application designed to improve customer service and accelerate onboarding for store associates. The tool has been deployed across more than 1,700 Lowes locations, marking the first large-scale rollout of an AI assistant for retail staff. Mylow Companion runs on devices used in the sales area and provides instant access to product specifications, project guidance, and real-time inventory data.

The application leverages generative AI to help associates answer a wide range of customer questions—from identifying the right fertilizer for a specific grass type to troubleshooting a leaking faucet. It is intended to support both new hires and experienced associates working outside their usual departments by supplying expert-level information via natural, conversational prompts and optional voice-to-text input.

Mylow Companion was developed in partnership with OpenAI and builds on the existing Mylow customer-facing virtual advisor platform. Brad Lightcap, chief operating officer at OpenAI, noted that the collaboration “makes it faster and easier for associates to help customers find exactly what they need.” The tool shares the same underlying technology as Mylow and is integrated with Lowes’ product and knowledge databases.

Seemantini Godbole, chief digital and information officer at Lowes, said, “Whether associates have been on the job for five weeks or five years, they can be confident they’re delivering expert-level advice and assistance.” Lowes intends to refine Mylow Companion based on in-app user feedback and to introduce additional capabilities over time.
