Lucas Bols, recognized as the world’s oldest distilled spirits brand still in operation, has introduced Bols Blue 1575, a super-premium Blue Curaçao. This release marks a significant milestone, celebrating 450 years of cocktail innovation. The new liqueur aims to modernize a classic product while honoring the brand’s extensive history in the spirits industry.
Bols Blue 1575 is designed to enhance contemporary mixology, offering a vibrant option for bartenders. The liqueur is crafted using a traditional recipe that incorporates high-quality ingredients, including distilled orange peels and a botanical spiced rum base. A selection of island-inspired botanicals, such as vanilla, grains of paradise, and cardamom, contributes to its complex flavor profile, making it suitable for innovative cocktail creations.
Monique ten Kortenaar, Master Distiller and Distillery Manager at Lucas Bols, stated, “Bols Blue 1575 is a tribute to the original Blue Curaçao Liqueur and a celebration of our 450 years of distilling expertise.” This statement reflects the brand’s commitment to preserving its heritage while advancing modern mixology techniques.
The liqueur is bottled at 29.5% ABV and is packaged in a 700ml bottle that draws inspiration from the vibrant origins of Blue Curaçao. It will be available for purchase at select retailers and will feature on cocktail menus in various establishments across the United States starting in Spring 2025. The retail price is set at $35, positioning it as a premium offering in the spirits market.
Blue Curaçao, known for its distinctive blue hue and citrus flavor, has its roots in the Caribbean Island of Curaçao. Traditionally, it is made from the dried peels of the Laraha fruit, which is steeped in alcohol to extract its unique aroma and flavor, further enhanced by a blend of herbs and spices. This new release from Lucas Bols seeks to provide bartenders with a modern tool to reinvent classic blue cocktails while maintaining the quality and tradition associated with the brand.
