For the first time since being named the World’s Most Admired Whiskey, Michter’s is set to release its 10 Year Kentucky Straight Rye. This release is a single barrel product, bottled from stocks over ten years old, carefully selected by Michter’s production team.
The 10 Year Kentucky Straight Rye is distinctively “Kentucky-style,” setting it apart from rye whiskeys produced in Indiana, Canada, and other regions. Michter’s President Joseph J. Magliocco noted that for over 20 years, Michter’s has aimed to demonstrate that American Rye can be a world-class spirit, with the 10 Year Rye playing a key role in this effort. He highlighted that the first rye released by Kentucky Michter’s was their 10 Year Rye.
Michter’s Master Distiller Dan McKee emphasized the additional flavor nuances of Kentucky-style rye, which includes more corn and malted barley in the mashbill. This composition contributes to the rye’s unique taste profile. Andrea Wilson, Michter’s Master of Maturation, praised the 10 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Rye for its elegance and complexity, noting that the spice is well-integrated with hints of floral notes, fruit, honey, citrus, and chocolate, resulting in a balanced and enjoyable experience, especially suitable for a summer evening.
The 10 Year Kentucky Straight Rye is bottled at 92.8 proof (46.4% alcohol by volume) and has a suggested retail price of $200 in the U.S. Michter’s plans to allocate this release in limited quantities to its export markets as well.
