The 2024 World’s Most Admired Whiskies list, published by Drinks International, has named Michter’s as the top-ranked whisky for the second year in a row. Michter’s, a Louisville-based distiller known for its bourbon, rye, and American whiskey, earned this recognition from an Academy of industry experts, including global drinks buyers, journalists, and bartenders from over 20 countries. The annual ranking, widely regarded as a benchmark in the whisky trade, includes renowned distillers from countries such as Scotland, Japan, and Ireland.
Michter’s President, Joseph J. Magliocco, expressed gratitude for the award, emphasizing the dedication of the Michter’s team. Andrea Wilson, Michter’s COO and Master of Maturation, noted the importance of this international recognition for American whiskey. Shay Waterworth, Editor of Drinks International, acknowledged Michter’s impact in the industry and highlighted the company’s maturation program as a significant factor in its reputation.
Michter’s operations span multiple sites in Kentucky, with its primary distillery in Shively, a 205-acre grain farm in Springfield, and a second distillery in Louisville’s historic Fort Nelson Building. The Fort Nelson site offers tours, tastings, and a bar curated by cocktail historian David Wondrich. Michter’s product line includes limited-production bourbon, rye, sour mash, and American whiskeys, each aged to peak maturity.
