Penelope Bourbon has announced the launch of Penelope Wheated Bourbon, which is the latest addition to its Core Series of bourbons. This new offering aims to enhance the Penelope portfolio by providing a wheated bourbon that is designed for versatility, with considerations for both proof and pricing. Penelope Wheated is bottled at 95 proof, equivalent to 47.5% ABV, and is set to be available nationwide starting in February, with a suggested minimum retail price of $39.99.
As the fifth expression in Penelope’s Core Series, Wheated Bourbon adds to a lineup that already includes Architect, Barrel Strength, Four Grain, and Toasted. This new bourbon is intended to complement the existing products, offering a profile that balances robust flavor with smooth drinkability.
The bourbon features a carefully crafted mash bill consisting of 74% corn, 16% wheat, 7% rye, and 3% malted barley. This combination is designed to produce a rich and sweet character, complemented by a smooth finish. The inclusion of rye is meant to provide a subtle hint of spice, contributing to the complexity of the bourbon. The aroma profile includes notes of light oak, sweet corn, apple, and pear, while the flavor profile encompasses vanilla, honey, caramel apple, and hints of orange zest. The finish is characterized by lingering brown sugar, toasted oak, and a touch of cinnamon spice.
According to Michael Paladini, founder of Penelope, the popularity of wheated bourbons has been increasing, and he believes this product meets the desired standards in terms of flavor, proof, and price. Danny Polise, also a founder and master blender at Penelope, stated that Wheated is a significant addition to their Core Series, emphasizing its full-bodied depth and complexity at the 95 proof level.
