Veterinarians remain the most trusted voice on pet food, and with 71% of dogs and cats already on well-pet diets, the Purina Institute is giving clinics a new tool to keep those conversations current. The Purina Institute Handbook of Canine and Feline Well-Pet Nutrition is a free, product-agnostic eBook written with input from 54 experts across 20 countries. It is designed for everyday use at the practice level, from reception to exam room.
Built as a quick reference, each chapter distills essentials into key takeaways, visuals, and communication tips. Topics include nutrient functions, life-stage feeding, proactive nutrition strategies, and how to discuss diet with pet owners in clear, practical terms.
The institute says the goal is to simplify sound recommendations that reflect both the pet’s needs and the owner’s lifestyle, budget, and preferences. Despite 83% of veterinarians rating nutrition as extremely important to overall health, only 34% discuss it proactively with clients, so the guide is intended to help teams start and sustain those dialogues.
The well-pet volume follows the 2023 Purina Institute Handbook of Canine and Feline Clinical Nutrition, which focuses on nutrition-responsive conditions. The institute also points clinics to CentreSquare, an online toolkit that supports client education and compliance. The new well-pet handbook is available now as a free eBook.
