RD1 Spirits has announced the upcoming opening of its new facility, RD1 Distillery at The Commons, located in Lexington, Kentucky, on May 14, 2025. This new site will replace the previous Tasting Room and Gift Shop on Manchester Street, expanding into a two-story structure that is three times larger than its predecessor. The distillery will focus on the company’s expertise in finishing bourbon with various types of wood to create unique tasting experiences.

The new RD1 Distillery will include a research and development distillery, a wood finishing lab, a bourbon bar, a speakeasy, a gift shop, and several flexible spaces for private events. Mike Tetterton, CEO of RD1 Spirits, stated, “What we’ve built with RD1 Distillery at The Commons is a bourbon landmark unlike any other in Lexington.” He emphasized the project’s role in enhancing Lexington’s Distillery District and its potential to boost tourism in the area.

In preparation for the grand opening, RD1 will provide limited tasting experiences during a soft opening phase. A ribbon-cutting and media event is scheduled for May 13, with public tours and tastings commencing the following day.

In conjunction with the opening, RD1 will release a limited edition 12-Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, available exclusively at The Commons. This bourbon, limited to 250 bottles, is drawn from six barrels and bottled at cask strength, with proof ranging from 121.1 to 127.3. Mark Stoops, an investor in RD1 and a community leader in Lexington, will host a private tasting event for purchasers of the bourbon later in the summer.

The 12-Year Limited Release bourbon will be presented in a custom decanter-like bottle, featuring gold lettering and housed in a display case that reflects the heritage of Lexington’s distilling history. Each bottle is priced at $799 and is described as having aromas of sweet caramel and leather, with a taste profile that includes rich oak and spiced peppercorn. The finish is characterized as long and balanced, leading to savory caramel. This release aims to celebrate the spirit of Lexington and the craftsmanship of RD1 Spirits.
