Ross & Squibb Distillery, located in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, has announced the release of its latest bourbon, the Remus Repeal Reserve Series VIII Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Bottled at 101 proof (50.5% ABV), this edition features a blend of three rare bourbons aged between 10 and 17 years. A limited supply of the Remus Repeal Reserve Series VIII will be available starting in September at a suggested retail price of $99.99 per 750mL bottle, coinciding with National Bourbon Heritage Month.
The Remus Repeal Reserve Series VIII is crafted to honor the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, continuing the tradition of high-quality bourbon associated with George Remus, a key figure in the Prohibition era. This year’s blend, developed by Ross & Squibb Master Distiller Ian Stirsman and his team, includes a higher proportion of high-rye bourbon compared to previous editions. The blend consists of 9% of a 17-year-aged bourbon with 21% rye, 24% of a 10-year-aged bourbon with 21% rye, and 67% of another 10-year-aged bourbon containing 36% rye.
The bourbon offers an aroma of cherry, candied pecans, and a hint of leather. On the palate, flavors of maple syrup and cherry are followed by fig, with a finish featuring vanilla, oak, and lingering notes of baking spice. Stirsman noted that the team chose to increase the proportion of high-rye bourbon and used non-chill filtration to preserve the viscosity and mouthfeel. The final blend was blind-tasted at different proofs, with 101 proof emerging as the preferred choice.
This release follows the success of previous editions, with Remus Repeal Reserve Series VII winning Gold at the 2024 SIP Awards and Series VI earning a Double Platinum medal at the 2023 ASCOT Awards. Remus Repeal Reserve Series V was awarded 98 points by Tasting Panel magazine in 2021.
