SIGMA Corporation has revealed plans to release the SIGMA 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Contemporary lens for Fujifilm’s X Mount. This new addition brings the total number of SIGMA lenses for the X Mount system to six, covering various focal lengths and aperture sizes.
The lens, originally designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras and released in 2020, will now be adapted for Fujifilm’s APS-C format. The lens provides a field of view equivalent to a 150-600mm lens in 35mm format. It maintains a relatively compact size, with a length of 199.5mm, maximum diameter of 86mm, and weight of 1,135g.
The lens construction consists of 16 groups and 22 elements, with one FLD and four SLDs for effective correction of aberrations and distortions. It has been optimized for mirrorless camera systems and provides consistent high-resolution image quality.
The lens incorporates a stepping motor and a control algorithm designed specifically for X Mount cameras, facilitating high-speed autofocus (AF) and support for continuous autofocus (AF-C). Additionally, it offers in-camera aberration correction, although functionality can vary depending on the camera model. The lens mount is rubber-sealed for durability and protection against various environmental conditions.
It also features multiple switches, including an AF Function Setting Switch for function selection and a focus limiter switch to optimize AF range for different shooting purposes. The lens also includes image stabilization, rated at five steps, which can work in tandem with in-body image stabilization systems for improved effectiveness.
The lens comes with a dual-action zoom mechanism that allows photographers to use either the zoom ring or adjust the lens hood for zooming. A separate tripod socket kit, TS-111, is available for purchase for photographers who require additional support for longer shooting sessions.
Additional features of the lens include compatibility with Lens Aberration Correction, a Super Multi-Layer Coating to reduce flare and ghosting, and a 9-blade rounded diaphragm. The lens also includes a durable brass bayonet mount.
