Sony Electronics Inc. has announced the release of the MDR-M1 Reference Closed Monitor Headphones, designed for music creators and sound engineers who need reliable and high-quality headphones for producing music in various environments. These headphones are engineered with a closed acoustic structure for superior sound isolation, along with a specially developed driver unit to ensure high-resolution audio across an ultra-wide frequency range.
The MDR-M1 is equipped with a driver unit capable of ultra-wideband playback, from 5Hz to 80kHz, ensuring precise sound reproduction. The driver combines a soft edge for low frequencies with a hard dome for accurate high frequencies, offering a balance between deep bass and clear treble. The closed acoustic structure prevents sound leakage and ambient noise, making the headphones suitable for various production processes. Sony’s Beat Response Control further optimizes the diaphragm’s movement, enhancing low-frequency transient characteristics to deliver a tighter bass response.
Developed in collaboration with industry professionals, including Mike Piacentini of Battery Studios and Akihiro Nishimura of Power Station at Berklee NYC, the MDR-M1 headphones aim to provide an authentic and immersive music experience. These experts have praised the headphones for their tonal accuracy and their ability to serve as a reference point across different audio setups.
Comfort is another key aspect of the MDR-M1 design. The headphones feature thick, low-resilience ear pads and a lightweight structure to ensure a precise fit for long production sessions. Two detachable cables are included to suit various professional setups, adding to the versatility and ease of use.
The MDR-M1 headphones are compatible with Sony’s 360 Virtual Mixing Environment (360VME), allowing users to create immersive audio experiences from any location. Priced at $249.99 USD and $349.99 CAD, the MDR-M1 is available for pre-order through Sony.com and authorized dealers.
