Hormel Foods has introduced a new product, SPAM Korean BBQ Flavored, now available exclusively at Walmart and Walmart.com. This variety features a blend of umami and Korean-inspired spices, reflecting the brand’s popularity in Korean culture and the increasing trend of Korean BBQ in the United States. The product is designed to be enjoyed in various ways, such as grilled, served over rice, or on a toasted bun with kimchi slaw.

SPAM Korean BBQ Flavored retains the comforting and versatile nature of SPAM Classic, with a distinct tangy twist and inviting aroma. The new flavor is a blend of soy sauce, garlic, ginger, paprika, sesame, and a hint of spice from gochujang paste, a Korean fermented red chili paste known for its balance of heat and sweetness.

Since the Korean War, SPAM products have been integrated into Korean cuisine and customs, from traditional dishes like Budae Jjigae (army stew) to being given as gifts during Korea’s Chuseok celebrations. SPAM has become a symbol of comfort and resilience in Korean heritage.

Jennesa Kinscher, senior brand manager for SPAM, stated that SPAM Korean BBQ Flavored acknowledges the brand’s relationship with Korean food culture and the global celebration of diverse tastes. The new variety aims to satisfy the comfort and nostalgia of existing fans while attracting new consumers interested in the flavors of Korean BBQ.

To mark the launch, New York City Chef Esther Choi, known for her restaurants môkbar and Ms Yoo, has partnered with the brand. Choi, a loyal SPAM fan, has incorporated the new variety into some of her signature dishes, recommending it be grilled and paired with kimchi to enhance the meal.
