Three Chord Bourbon, a whiskey brand recognized for its award-winning blends and innovative cask finishes, has announced the release of its 2024 Backstage Series. This year’s edition features a collaboration with the legendary Allman Brothers Band, resulting in a blend of straight bourbon whiskey finished with toasted peach wood. The collaboration marks a unique effort to blend the legacy of the Allman Brothers Band with the craftsmanship of Three Chord Bourbon.
The collaboration was initiated in late 2022 by David Spero, long-time manager of Dickey Betts, alongside the Allman Brothers Band estate. Their goal was to create a whiskey that would both honor the band’s legacy and introduce their spirit to new audiences, while also supporting the music community. The limited edition whiskey is inspired by the band’s iconic album “Eat a Peach,” and every aspect of the product, from the label design to the blend and finishing process, was developed in partnership with the band.
The whiskey features a blend that has been enhanced with toasted peach wood, a material not commonly used in whiskey production but chosen for its ability to impart sweetness, structure, and a hint of smoke. The resulting whiskey has a warm amber color with hints of red and brown. The aroma includes notes of spice, vanilla, toasted wood, and caramel. The taste is smooth and sweet, with additional complexity from the toasted peach wood, leading to a long and balanced finish with hints of sweetness, spice, and caramel.
Ari Sussman, whiskey maker at Three Chord Bourbon, expressed his admiration for the band and the significance of the collaboration, highlighting the effort to create a whiskey with bold and distinctive flavors that also incorporates elements from the band’s iconography. Neil Giraldo, founder of Three Chord Bourbon, emphasized that this special edition bourbon encapsulates the spirit and soul of the Allman Brothers Band’s music, offering a unique sensory experience.
