The Tillamook County Creamery Association (TCCA), known for its scoopable ice cream, has won the Gold Award in the Frozen Desserts category at the Specialty Food Association’s (SFA) 2024 sofi Awards. The Tillamook Sea Salt & Honeycomb Toffee Ice Cream was selected as the top Frozen Dessert product by a panel of specialty food experts, buyers, and media. Judging criteria included taste, flavor, appearance, texture, aroma, ingredient quality, and innovation. The tastings were conducted anonymously at the Rutgers Food Innovation Center.
Jill Allen, Director of Product Excellence at TCCA, expressed excitement over winning the association’s first sofi Gold Award. She emphasized the company’s dedication to delivering high-quality dairy products for Tillamook fans. Allen described the award-winning flavor as a combination of honey ice cream with crunchy honeycomb toffee and sea salt, creating a balance of sweet and salty tastes. This flavor is available in pint size at grocery stores nationwide.
Tillamook recently updated its pint-size ice cream line to match the rapid growth of its family-size ice cream line, which has been the fastest-growing in the country for five consecutive years. Over the past year, Tillamook family-size ice cream sales increased by 28% in dollar terms and 20% in volume, adding 726,000 new households.
Bill Lynch, President of the Specialty Food Association, highlighted the significance of winning a sofi Gold Award, noting that recipients have achieved excellence in highly competitive categories. He praised the exceptional quality of the products that earn top marks from the judges.
